Ministry and Burn Out

Today I read a blog post from Carol Howard Merritt What Causes Pastors to Burnout? that caused a reaction in me. Carol highlighted several reasons that pastors leave after the first few years of ministry.

I have been fortunate every step of my journey to have people to have helped me. There are times in ministry that you need someone to talk with to help you figure out where to go and what to do. For the last few years, it has been a group of women clergy that have been a wonderful place for me to go and be me AND receive the support and prayers that I have needed. Serving a church that has lost membership because of death, retirement and relocation with no new people moving into town, it has been a difficult time. So I want to say publicly to several colleagues "thanks" for I couldn't have done it without you. Thank you to Barb Kenley, Kristy Quinn, Laura Sherwood, and Rachel Wann. There have been others who have supported me, but these four women have been an inspiration to me and always there when I have needed a friend and a pastor.

I am thankful that these women are only a phone call or email away as I transition to my new call in New Jersey.

Carol,
I think sometimes we forget to say "thanks" for all that someone does for us.
